Below are things you should know or do when you smell gas in a building or area outside a building.
1. When you smell gas in a home or building it will more than likely, smell like rotten eggs.
2. When you smell gas, evacuate the structure/area immediately and stay away!!
3. Call 911 and also the local gas company.
4. Do not return to the area/structure until the Fire Department declares the area to be safe.
5. Any time you smell gas, do not smoke or use a cigarette lighter or anything that can cause a spark.
6. If you smell gas in a home or food service business, make sure all kitchen appliances such as a stove, oven, toaster, toaster oven, microwave oven are turned off and if possible, unplugged from the electrical outlet.
