Never allow children or pets to play around the fire place.

 

Make sure the chimney is cleaned by a professional on a regular basis.

 

Always make sure that the flue is open before using the fireplace.

 

Make sure you regularly test and change the batteries in you smoke alarm and CO₂ monitor.

 

Make sure you have a fire extinguisher close to the fireplace.

 

Keep all paper, clothing, blankets, pillows, curtains etc away from the fireplace.

 

Make sure you have a fire resistant barrier around the opening to the fireplace.
