Archived Fire Prevention Tips
1. Test your Smoke Alarm and CO2 Detector once a month. Change the batteries in them twice a year. Remember "Change your clock, change your batteries".
2. Practice EDITH, Exit Drills In The Home. 3. Know two ways out of a room, house or building. 4. If your clothes catch on fire - Remember Stop, cover your face, Drop and Roll. 5. Firefighters are your friends. Don't run from them in the case of an emergency.
Space Heaters
Always keep paper, cloth, plastics and other combustibles away from heater. Before using one, check the plug and power cord to make sure they are not frayed or broken. Make sure the heater is in good working order. If you notice anything wrong with it, unplug it and stop using it immediately. When purchasing a heater, make sure it has been tested by a laboratory such as Underwriters Laboratories. Underwriters Laboratories inspect all electrical items for safety and quality. Always supervise pets and children when using your heater. Never let them play with or around the unit. Never leave space heaters unattended for any length of time. Always turn them off before leaving the house.
