Remove Yourself from Domestic Violence

The first very necessary step to remove yourself from an abusive relationship is to accept and acknowledge that you are being abused and that you do not deserve the abuse. Secondly, make a decision to leave the abuser. Once you decide you deserve a better life, the rest is easier.

You must have a plan and the plan must be followed. Many people take years to decide that they deserve a better life. Next, put a financial plan into place. Although there are resources for the abused, you must have financial backing. Take stock of your abilities and determine if you will require additional schooling or a new job to enable you to make a clean break of your abuser. Begin stashing money as soon as you decide you want out. You can stash as little as $20.00 - $50.00 a week in addition to lump sums of money such as tax returns. You will be surprised how quickly your little nest egg will grow. Be sure to have your escape funds separate from the regular household funds.

You must also find a new place to live and this becomes increasingly difficult if children are involved. Make sure youre in a place you can afford that will offer some semblance of security. Researchers also suggest that you do not tell the abuser in advance of your plans to move and that moving during the middle of a weekday is best. Finally do know that the best plans dont always work so have an alternate plan.
