Fire Prevention Within The Business

Interested in learning more to help prevent work place fires? Does your business have a fire prevention plan? What does your business do in case of a fire? Are you prepared in case of a fire? Could your business recover after a fire, and how quickly? When owning a business it is extremely important to be prepared ahead of time. If a fire should occur, having a plan in advance could mean the difference between re-opening and closing down permanently. Dont be unprepared for the worst!

Have a plan. Just like in your home, you must have an evacuation plan for your employees. Knowing your exits and having an area to meet should become standard practices. Know where your fire extinguishers are and how to use them. Make sure that your building's fire codes are enforced and kept current. Have emergency information available and easy to find in a moment's notice.

Many business owners think that leasing a space means they don't have to worry about fire safety, but it is very important that you take an active role in your building's safety issues. If your building is not within regulation guidelines you may have to discuss it with your landlord. Also knowing your employees' activities such as smoking in the workplace is highly important. If they smoke inside it is important to advise the designated smoking areas, smoking break times and how important it is that the rules are followed. Check with your state's smoking regulations so that your business follows the laws in regards to smoking bans and any other fire prevention laws listed.
