The Fires Out

One of Americas oldest firehouses, in Louisville, Kentucky, must be shut down to save money, says the mayor. The people are willing to take this to court and fight for it to remain open to serve the public. This station was built on the corner of 6th and York streets and has been in service since 1871.

The Friendship Fireman's Museum is a favorite for the fireman lovers out there. This is Alexandrias oldest firehouse, as it was built in 1871. In 1990, they restored it to have it open to the public for viewing everything that they may have used or were clothed in. When visiting Virginia, this museum is a must.

There was an old firehouse in Gold Hill, Nevada and the name was the Liberty firehouse. This is an old abandoned wooden structure that eventually collapsed in the year 1937. The only thing that was able to be saved for memory was the belfry, which is now a monument there.

The Elmira firehouse was built in New York in 1897, and it took $12,000 to construct it, which included all of the amenities to work the station in full service. The plumbing and heating cost was about $850 combined, and the structure cost was around $6,800. The land for this building to be built on was donated by lawyer George Diven. They started the stations service with a hose and chemical wagon, which had two horses that first pulled it on March 5th, 1898. The same day it was opened they received their first alarm at 9:22 PM. In December or 1900, they got a steam pump wagon, which was also pulled by two horses.
