1. For your own protection, you should always lock the doors to your house. You should also lock your vehicle when it is unoccupied. This is for your safety and protection. 2. You should never leave your keys in the ignition when the vehicle is not occupied. If the keys are left in the ignition, you are asking for trouble or it is an invitation for the vehicle to be stolen. Traffic Safety Information Always cross streets in crosswalks at intersections, never in the middle of a block. Always look both ways before crossing a street. Wear a helmet when riding a bicycle. Wear helmets and elbow and knee pads when riding using skateboards, roller skates or scooter. Wear a helmet when riding a motorcycle. Wear seatbelts when driving or riding in a car. It is the law in all fifty states. Enforcement and penalties vary from state to state. Do not use a cell phone behind the wheel a car in motion. If you must use one, pull over into a safe location. More and more states are now outlawing this practice. Penalties for this infraction vary from state to state. Always come to a complete stop when a school bus is stopped to load or unload passengers. Buses will have flashing lights as well as , in some cases, a bar that comes across the lane next to the bus. Most states have laws requiring this. Penalties for violating such laws also vary from state to state. When a police cars, fire equipment, or ambulances approach you in traffic, pull carefully and safely pull over to the right side to allow them to pass. Most states have laws requiring this. Identity Theft Prevention 1. Never give your personal information to anyone over the phone unless you know the person. 2. Purchase a shredder. 3. Shred all junk mail and any paperwork containing your name address, date of birth, social security number, telephone number etc. 4. Check your accounts on a regular basis to make sure there aren�t any unauthorized charges. 5. Check your credit reports on a regular basis to make sure all the information is correct. 6. Never carry your social security card. Keep it at home and make sure you have the number memorized. 7. If your purse/wallet is stolen, report it to the police immediately!! Then call you bank and have your ATM card replaced. Also call your credit card companies and have your account number and card changed.
